In April 1456, Ireland was de-Anglicised. Three town names were changed to their Irish Gaelic counterparts: Cashel became An Caiseal, Lismore became Lios Mór and Waterford became Port Láirge. However, due to the accents being used in the Gaelic names, the new names are often commonly misspelt or ignored in favour of their English versions.
